North End Pride Day Saturday

From the North End Action Team

The North End Action Team (NEAT) is organizing a neighborhood Pride Day where residents and volunteers will work together to spruce up common spaces in Middletown’s North End neighborhood.  The North End will unite for a block by block neighborhood clean up effort, picking up trash, cleaning out flower boxes, preparing the Erin Street Community garden for spring planting and more. The clean-up will take place from 9 am to 12 pm, followed by a block party at Donovan Park from 12-3.

Resident leaders of NEAT are organizing Pride Day as a way to get more people involved and invested in their community. Residents will work to make visible improvements along side their neighbors.  PRIDE Day will provide a great opportunity for people to get involved for the first time or continue to show commitment to the neighborhood.

A major component of Pride Day is the cooperation of local groups, including the Green Street Arts Center, the Jonah Center and Earth Ministries, various Wesleyan student groups and NEAT, among others.  Volunteers from partner organizations will work side by side with residents.

To celebrate the day’s hard work, NEAT, in partnership with Macdonough School, will hold a neighborhood Block Party at Donovan Park (next to Macdonough School) where residents and volunteers can listen to music, eat lunch and listen to music.

Supplies have been donated by Sherwin-Williams in Cromwell…thanks!!

This is a great idea, and I hope it's a big success. I also hope the bulk of volunteers are NorthEnders, thus being "part of the solution". The neighborhood teeters on the brink. Those houses in the North End need work, but are probably better built than new homes, and therefore, worth saving. I hope the people of the North End continue the fight to preserve their turf, and wish them luck.

How do people contact to get involved? I don't live in the North End, but would like to volunteer.
