A Day on the River: Head of the Connecticut Crew Regatta

It turned out to be a beautiful day for the 37th annual Head of the Connecticut Regatta. This race has been a tradition for many rowing teams across the state, and those in attendance included Wesleyan's own crew team, Canterbury School, The Gunnery School, Long Island Rowing Club, and Choate Rosemary Hall to name a few. Throngs turned out to see the race, and the weather was perfect for the first half of the program.

Despite a promising start, the program dropped behind schedule by more than an hour as the day went on, and the swamping of three boats resulted in the canceling of all afternoon high school events. Disappointments ran high all around, as for many in the high school novice league it was the very first race they were participating in.

In order to avoid backups on the narrow course, boats were started at 10 second intervals and ranked based on their times.
Local vendors made use of the crowds, and devoted families of the rowers arrived with baskets of food for their teams.

Wesleyan was mentioned in the article but Middletown High and Xavier were not mentioned.

Dear Ms. Harnesk:
You have pointed out a lacuna in our coverage (with an all-volunteer set of correspondents, you won't have to look very far to find others).
You can rectify it! Please submit an article about the Middletown High and Xavier crew teams and their participation in the Head of The Connecticut. We would LOVE to publish articles about every one of their races, but we need someone to write them.
Submit your writing to middletowneye@gmail.com
Thank you for reading.
