Mayoral Debate and Candidates Forum Scheduled This Week and Next

There are three scheduled candidate nights in the coming week. They have different formats, ranging from a classical debate to a candidates forum. If there are other occasions for the public to meet or to hear from the candidates, let us know and we'll post an article. If you wish to file an Eye story on any of the debates, please let us know.

Thursday, October 20th, 8PM, Crowell Concert Hall, Wesleyan.
The Middletown Eye is co-sponsoring this debate with the Wesleyan Students Association and other Wesleyan groups. The debate will be webcast live online at wescast.wesleyan.edu (but nothing beats being there live!).
If you have questions you would like to be considered, please submit them in the comments section.

Monday, October 24th, 7:30 PM, Third Congregational Church, 94 Miner Street.
The Westfield Residents Association, the oldest continuously active neighborhood association, is sponsoring its annual "meet the candidates" night. All three candidates for mayor will be there, along with both of the candidates for treasurer. In addition, each of the major parties will be given 10 minutes to present the candidates for Common Council.

Tuesday October 25th, from 7:00 to 8:00 PM, The Barns at Wesleyan Hills, Long Hill Road
Wesleyan Hills will host a Mayoral Debate featuring all three Mayoral Candidates appearing on Middletown's Election Ballot. The moderator will be civic leader, Richard Kamins, President of the Russell Library Board of Trustees.

The debate will be conducted in the classic manner, where each candidate will answer questions they have been provided in advance. The moderator will ask the candidates questions posed by the audience as time permits.

Seating is limited, and people will be seated on a first come, first seated, basis. The Barns at Wesleyan Hills have ample off-street parking accessible from Long hill Road.

My disappointment is that not one debate is on cable tv. Why doesn't the Eye sponsor a debate to be held at City Hall or at Comcast. I know the public would turn in and it could be broadcast online as well. It is a shame that won't happen so the public can get an informed opinion on the three candidates.

Well truthfully, Dan didn't do so hot, so it won't see the light of day. He actually said he would take a plane if he had to to personally meet with world CEO's and invite them to Middletown- HA
