Newpoli Concert At Middletown High Saturday

From Hollie Rose:
--------------
Middletown is a town with a large representation of Southern Italian folks, so there should be a good turnout for the first concert in this year’s Series presented by The Greater Middletown Concert Association.

On Saturday evening at 7:30 Newpoli will perform at the Middletown High School Performing Arts Center. The MHS Performing Arts Center is a lovely state-of-the-art venue for seeing live music. The sound is wonderful and the seats are all good!

I took this blurb from their website – “Newpoli is a group of exceptionally talented musicians, all alumni from the Berklee College of Music and New England Conservatory, that performs Southern Italian Folk Music, mainly from the regions of Campania and Puglia, integrating a wide variety of styles such as Tarantella-Pizzica, Tammuriata, Villanella and the Neopolitan Canzone, encompassing music from the Middle Ages to the 19th century. Because Italian Folk music, with the exception of a small number of Neopolitan songs, has not yet received its deserved attention and recognition, neither in Italy nor abroad, Newpoli, guided by their passion for playing and researching these seldom played traditional styles, introduces to the audience, often for the first time, the joy and beauty of this music while recounting the ancient stories and rituals described in the lyrics.”

Sounds wonderful to me and maybe to you too?
You can hear whole songs of their music on their website.

So if you’ve got nothing to do this weekend, why not open yourself up to a new experience, take in a little culture, and support musicians who are keeping traditions alive.
I think it’s going to be a good show…
